Traffic
Unfortunately, traffic continues to be a problem in District 6. I will continue to try to bring some sort of relief to this situation.

One accomplishment is that at North Chapel, Paper Mill Road & Cleveland Avenue DELDOT has changed the timing for Northbound Chapel to allow more cars to make it through the light.
Also, a stop sign has been added on N. College just past Prospect Ave.

At the Council meeting with DELDOT in December, Carolann Wicks was asked to look at several possible changes to our roads. The items addressed were:

- An update on the traffic signaling system on major roadways in Newark and specifically existing lights at: West Park Place and Orchard Road; South College Avenue and Amstel Avenue; Cleveland Avenue and North Chapel Street.

- Adding a left turn light at N. College & Cleveland for those traveling south on N. College.

- Adding a right turn lane at N. College & Cleveland for those traveling north and turning right on Cleveland.

- Adding a guard rail or alternative protective implementation on the west side of Paper Mill Road at Bank of America to protect three critical electrical polls shared by the City of Newark and Delmarva Power. This request was later denied because DELDOT can not protect all of the poles.

- Separating the bike lane on Paper Mill from the traffic lanes. This was turned down by DELDOT due to cost and possible acquisition of land.

- Making Old Paper Mill Road drainage improvements, sidewalk installations, addition of shoulders or a bike path, and bridge retrofit to eliminate periodic road flooding.

- Allowing the use of the entrance along Possum Park as a construction entrance for Stonevale. After an initial misunderstanding that the City wanted this to be a permanent entrance, I believe this has now been approved.
